What it’s for
- School papers and theses: number at the bottom center, with the cover left blank.
- Contracts and legal files: “Page 1 of 10” shows no page was removed.
- Handouts and reports: whoever prints it can put the sheets in order.
- Merged documents: after merging several PDFs, the numbering runs through all of them.
Blank cover and continued numbering
Start on page picks the first page that gets a number: with 2, the cover stays clean. First number picks the number it gets: with 21, the numbering continues from another file. The screen shows beforehand which number goes on the first and last pages.
Your file never leaves your device
The numbers are written into the PDF by your browser, in your phone’s or computer’s memory. No file goes through our server.
Limits

Frequently asked questions
How do I leave the cover without a number?
In Start on page, type 2. The cover stays blank, and page 2 gets number 1. If you’d rather it get number 2, change First number to 2.
Which formats can I use?
Three: just the number (“1”), the number with the total (“1 of 10”) and spelled out (“Page 1 of 10”).
How does the total in "1 of 10" work?
The total is the last number placed. In a 10-page PDF with the cover left blank, it goes from “1 of 9” to “9 of 9”.
Can I continue the numbering of another file?
Yes. If the first file ended on page 20, type 21 in First number. Or merge both first with merge PDF and number everything at once.
Where can the number go?
In 6 places: top or bottom, left, center or right. The default is bottom center, like a school paper.
What about a page that's sideways?
The number comes out upright in the chosen place, the way the page appears on screen, even on rotated pages.
Is the number real text?
Yes. It’s real text, small and dark gray: it can be selected, and the file stays light.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The numbers are added in your browser. Your PDF never leaves your device.
Is there a page limit?
Up to 500 pages and 50 MB.
Can I open a password-protected PDF?
No. A protected PDF won’t open here, and we don’t try to break the password. See the guide PDF won’t open or is password protected.
