What to send when something goes wrong

  1. The tool you used, like merge or compress.
  2. What happened and the exact message on screen.
  3. Roughly how big the file is and how many pages it has.
  4. Device and browser. For example: “iPhone 13, Safari” or “Pixel 7, Chrome”.
  5. A screenshot, if you can.

Don’t send personal documents. Your files never reach us through the tools, and we don’t need them to understand the problem. If the error happens with a PDF that isn’t confidential, like a menu or a flyer, you can attach it.

For a suspicious ad, like one that imitates a download button or asks you to install something, send a screenshot, the page address and the time. That helps us block the advertiser.

Never send passwords, verification codes or card details. We never ask for them.

Before you write: common errors

“This PDF is protected by a password or against editing.” The PDF has a password or an editing lock, and it won’t open here. We don’t break passwords. If the document is yours, the guide PDF won’t open or is password protected shows how to create a copy without the password.

“We couldn’t open this file.” The file is damaged or isn’t really a PDF. Download it again, or open it in a PDF reader and use Print > Save as PDF to create a fresh copy.

“This PDF has 320 pages, and the limit here is 200.” Each tool has a page limit so phones don’t freeze. Split the document into parts with split PDF.

“This device ran out of memory.” Close other tabs and apps, try a smaller file or use a computer.

“Your PDF was already light.” Compressing didn’t make the file smaller, and you got the original. Try strong mode, which turns the pages into images.

I downloaded it but can’t find the file. On iPhone, open the Files app and go to Downloads. On Android, open your file manager and go to Downloads, or use “Downloads” in Chrome’s menu.

“This browser can’t open HEIC.” iPhone photos in HEIC open in Safari. On iPhone, the photo picker usually hands over a JPG anyway.
