Word to PDF
Turn your Word document into a PDF, with its tables, images and formatting, in a few seconds.
DOCX, DOC or ODT, up to 25 MB. Excel and PowerPoint work too.
Your file goes to our server in Brazil, becomes a PDF and is deleted right away, never stored.
How to convert Word to PDF in 3 steps
Choose the document
Tap Choose Word file and select the DOCX or DOC. The screen shows its name and size.
Convert
Tap Convert to PDF. The file is uploaded, turned into a PDF on our server and deleted right away. A typical document takes a few seconds.
Download the PDF
Tap Download PDF. The PDF keeps the document’s name, ending in .pdf.
Why send it as a PDF
- Nobody changes it by accident. A PDF opens the same on any phone or computer, and the text doesn’t shift when someone opens it in a different version of Word.
- Resumes, contracts, school papers and proposals are usually requested as PDF. Job sites and government portals often accept PDF only.
- Fonts travel with it. People who don’t have your font still see the document the same way.
What goes into the PDF
| In the document | In the PDF |
|---|---|
| Text, headings, lists and colors | Same, with selectable, searchable text |
| Tables, header, footer and page numbers | Same |
| Images and charts | Same, at the document’s resolution |
| Links | Still clickable |
| Review comments | Left out |
| Macros | Never run |
Where your file goes
This is the only PegaPDF tool that needs a server: turning Word into PDF takes a full office suite, which doesn’t fit in a phone browser. The document goes to our server, in Brazil, where LibreOffice converts it in a temporary folder of its own. As soon as the PDF is ready (or if something fails), the folder is deleted. The PDF goes straight back to your device and is not stored. The converter has no internet access, and the server log keeps only the format, the size range and the conversion time, never the file name or its content.
Limits
One document of up to 25 MB at a time, and up to 10 conversions every 15 minutes per person. A very heavy document that takes over 1 minute to convert is refused with a message. When lots of people are converting at once, the screen asks you to try again in 1 minute.
Other tools
For spreadsheets, use Excel to PDF; for presentations, PowerPoint to PDF. After converting, you can merge the PDF with others, compress it to send on WhatsApp or sign it, all in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded to a server?
Yes. Unlike the other PegaPDF tools, which run in your browser, this one needs our server, in Brazil: the document is uploaded, turned into a PDF and deleted right away, whether it worked or not. The PDF comes back only to you and is not stored. Nobody reads the document, and the file name is not even sent.
Does the PDF look like the document?
Almost always. The conversion uses LibreOffice with fonts that have the same metrics as the Office ones (Carlito for Calibri, Caladea for Cambria and Liberation for Arial and Times New Roman), so lines and pages break in the same place. A rare or brand font we don’t have is swapped for a similar one.
Does it convert old DOC and ODT files?
Yes. It takes DOCX, DOC (Word 97 to 2003) and ODT (LibreOffice, or Google Docs downloaded as ODT). It also takes Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations, in case you pick one by mistake.
What is the maximum size?
25 MB per file. A text document with a few photos rarely goes over 5 MB. If yours does, shrink the pictures in Word (File > Compress Pictures) before converting.
Is there a conversion limit?
Up to 10 documents every 15 minutes per person, with no sign-up and no cost. The limit only keeps the server available to everyone. A conversion that fails does not count.
Does a password-protected document convert?
No. A document that needs a password to open does not convert here, and we never try to break the password. Open it in Word, remove the password under File > Info > Protect Document and upload it again.
Do the document's macros run?
No. Macros are turned off during the conversion, and the converter has no internet access. An image the document only links to (not stored inside the file) does not show up in the PDF.
Do comments and the table of contents show up?
The table of contents shows as it is in the document, and the headings become PDF bookmarks. Review comments are left out. To keep the comments, print to PDF from Word itself.
Does it work on a phone?
It works on Android and iPhone, in the browser. Tap Choose Word file and pick the document from your phone’s files, Google Drive or iCloud. On iPhone, the PDF goes to the Files app.
What about PDF to Word?
There’s a page for that: PDF to Word turns the PDF into an editable document, in your browser. This one only turns Word into PDF.
