PDF to Word

Turn your PDF into a Word file (.docx) you can edit. Works with text PDFs, and your file never leaves your device.

One PDF up to 50 MB and 200 pages.

Works best with text PDFs (made in Word, Google Docs, a system or a website). Font, color and layout may change a little; charts drawn with lines and text boxes won't come back exactly the same.

Your file never leaves your device: everything happens in the browser, with no upload to any server.

How to convert PDF to Word in 3 steps

  1. Choose the PDF

Tap Choose PDF and pick the file.

  2. Convert

Tap Convert to Word. The text is read page by page, and the bar shows the progress.

  3. Download the Word file

Tap Download Word (.docx). The file keeps the PDF’s name.

What goes into Word

  • Paragraphs: lines that were broken in the PDF become one paragraph again, and a word hyphenated at the end of a line is joined back.
  • Headings: text larger than the body becomes a Word heading (Heading 1, 2 and 3), ready for a table of contents.
  • Tables: aligned columns become a Word table.
  • Images: photos and figures go where they were.
  • Bold and italics, when the PDF font says so.
  • One Word page for each PDF page.

Works best with text PDFs

The conversion reads the text stored inside the PDF. So it works well with PDFs made by Word, Google Docs, a system, a bank or a website: resumes, contracts, reports, invoices, handouts.

A scanned PDF has no text: the page is a photo. In that case, the tool tells you and doesn’t hand you an empty Word file. If you need the pages as images, use PDF to JPG.

Also not the same: the exact font and color, magazine layouts with many columns, text boxes and charts drawn with lines. Repeated headers and footers come out as text on each page.

Your file never leaves your device

The PDF is read and the Word file is built in your browser, in your phone’s or computer’s memory. No file goes through our server. Contracts, statements and personal documents stay with you.

Limits

One PDF up to 50 MB and 200 pages. Pages are read one at a time so your phone doesn’t freeze, and you can cancel halfway.

Other PDF tools

To get just the text, use PDF to text. To shrink the file after saving it as PDF again, compress the PDF. For a small change without going through Word, edit PDF adds text on top of the page.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Word file look exactly like the PDF?

The text comes out editable, in paragraphs, with headings, tables and images in place. Font, color and layout may change a little: a PDF only stores where each letter sits, and Word needs paragraphs. Check the file before you send it.

My PDF is a photo or a scan. Will it work?

No. In a scanned PDF, the letters are an image, so there is no text to extract. The tool detects this and tells you, instead of giving you an empty Word file. Reading text from images (OCR) does not run here, in the browser.

What if only some pages are scanned?

Pages with text become text, and a page that looks like a photo goes into Word as an image of the whole page. The screen tells you which ones.

Do tables become Word tables?

Yes, when the columns in the PDF are aligned, like a spreadsheet or a statement. Tables with merged or misaligned cells may come out as text separated by tabs.

Do images come along?

Yes. Photos and figures go in their place, cut out from the page. A chart drawn with lines, which isn’t an image inside the PDF, doesn’t.

Does it open in Google Docs and on my phone?

Yes. It’s a regular .docx file: it opens in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and mobile office apps.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The text is read and the Word file is built in your browser. Your PDF never leaves your device, and closing the page clears everything.

Is there a page limit?

Up to 200 pages and 50 MB. For a bigger PDF, cut it into parts with split PDF and convert one at a time.

Can I open a password-protected PDF?

No. A protected PDF won’t open here, and we don’t try to break the password. See the guide PDF won’t open or is password protected.

I only want to copy the text. Is there a quicker way?

Yes. PDF to text shows the text on screen, with a copy button and a .txt download.
