How to merge PDFs on your phone (iPhone and Android)

Merging PDFs on a phone usually comes up when an application form takes a single file and you have three or four. You can do it in the browser, without installing anything, and without sending your documents to anyone’s server.

Before you start

  • The PDFs need to be on your phone. If they came by email or a chat app, open each one and save it to the device (on iPhone, to Files; on Android, to Downloads).
  • Got photos instead of PDFs? Turn them into a PDF first with JPG to PDF, then merge.
  • Password-protected PDFs won’t merge. See PDF won’t open or is password protected.

On iPhone (Safari)

  1. Open pegapdf.com.br/en in Safari. The first page is the merge tool.
  2. Tap Choose PDFs. The iPhone asks where from: pick Choose File and go to the folder with your PDFs (Downloads, iCloud Drive or On My iPhone).
  3. Tap Select at the top, mark the PDFs and tap Open.
  4. Put them in order: drag each PDF by the handle next to its name, or use the arrows.
  5. Tap Merge PDF, then Download PDF.
  6. The file goes to the Files app, in Downloads, with “-merged” at the end of its name.

To send it in a chat, open the PDF in Files, tap Share and pick the conversation.

On Android (Chrome)

  1. Open pegapdf.com.br/en in Chrome.
  2. Tap Choose PDFs. The file picker opens: press and hold the first PDF, then tap the others to select several. Tap Select or Open, depending on your phone.
  3. Put them in order with the handle or the arrows.
  4. Tap Merge PDF, then Download PDF.
  5. The file lands in Downloads. Chrome also shows a notice to open it as soon as it’s done.

Menu names vary a little between phone brands, but the path is the same: choose, order, merge, download.

Getting the order right

The list order is the page order of the merged PDF. Before tapping Merge PDF, check:

  • the main document first, like a completed form;
  • then the attachments, in the order the form asks for;
  • receipts or proofs last.

Got it wrong after merging? Tap Start over and pick the files again, or fix the pages of the merged PDF with organize PDF, which also rotates and deletes pages.

If the final file is too big

Phones tend to create heavy PDFs when the pages are photos. If a form rejects the file because of its size, run the merged file through compress PDF. The guide how to make a PDF smaller for email explains which mode to choose.

Limits that keep your phone from freezing

  • Up to 20 PDFs at once, 50 MB each and 100 MB in total.
  • Up to 500 pages in the merged PDF.

Everything happens in your phone’s memory, one page at a time, with a progress bar. On a phone with little memory, close other apps and tabs before merging big files.

Why in the browser

PDF apps often ask you to sign up, show full-screen ads or send your file to the cloud. Here, the PDFs are merged inside your phone’s browser: no file is uploaded, and closing the page clears everything. For personal documents, that’s the difference that matters.
