How to compress a PDF to 100 KB in 3 steps
Choose the PDF
Tap Choose PDF. The 100 KB maximum size is already selected.
Tap Compress to 100 KB
The tool tries light mode first and, if it doesn’t fit, turns the pages into images, lowering the quality step by step.
Download the PDF
Check the final size on screen and tap Download PDF.
Need a different limit? After choosing the PDF, pick another size or tap Other and type your own.
When a form asks for 100 KB
It’s one of the tightest limits out there. You’ll see it on application and registration forms with small upload fields: proof of address, a scanned ID, a signed statement, a certificate. Every site sets its own limit, so check the number written on the form itself before compressing; some ask for even less.
If the form accepts more than one file, upload one page per file: each one gets the whole 100 KB.
What to expect from the quality
| Your PDF | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Made on a computer (Word, invoice, receipt) | May fit in light mode, and then the text stays selectable |
| Scan or photo of a document, 1 page | Pages become images; the text stays readable, a little less sharp |
| Scan with several pages | May not fit: the screen shows the smallest size and what to do |
The tool never goes past the readability floor: 96 dpi and 40% quality. Below that, small print and numbers start to blur, and a document nobody can read gets rejected anyway. If it still doesn’t fit, we’d rather tell you so.
Tips to fit in 100 KB
- Send only the page they asked for. Pull it out with split PDF and compress just that page.
- Crop first. A photo of the document with the table around it spends kilobytes on the table. Crop on your phone and rebuild the PDF with JPG to PDF.
- Good light, flat paper. Shadows, grain and a curled page add weight and make it harder to read.
- Use the original PDF. A statement or bill downloaded from the issuer’s site is light and keeps its text. A photo of the printed page weighs far more.
Your document never leaves your device
Everything happens in the browser: the PDF is opened, compressed and saved again in your phone’s or computer’s memory. Nothing is uploaded, and closing the page wipes it all. It’s safe for IDs, bills and bank statements.
Other sizes
If your limit is a bit higher, compress PDF to 200 KB loses less quality. For résumés and contracts, 500 KB; for a regular attachment, 1 MB. With no set limit, compress PDF has light and strong modes. To put several documents in one file, merge PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Will the PDF be exactly 100 KB?
It will be 100 KB or less, usually a little under. The tool looks for the best quality that still fits, not for an exact number.
Is 100 KB 100,000 or 102,400 bytes?
We use 100,000 bytes, the stricter count. That way the file passes on sites that count either way. Windows counts in steps of 1,024, so it may show a slightly smaller number.
Why can't I select the text anymore?
Because light mode, which keeps the text, didn’t get down to 100 KB. Then the pages become images: the document is still readable, but you can’t select, copy or search the words.
What if it doesn't fit in 100 KB?
The screen shows the smallest size we reached and lets you download that file. To get to 100 KB, send only the page that was asked for using split PDF, or retake the photo of the document cropped tighter.
Will the document still be readable?
We never go below 96 dpi and 40% quality, the point where regular text is still readable. Still, open the file before you send it and check small numbers such as ID numbers, dates and amounts.
How many pages fit in 100 KB?
It depends on what’s on them. A text PDF made on a computer can have several pages and still fit. A scan or a photo weighs much more per page: the fewer pages, the better each one looks.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens in your browser, using your device’s memory. The file never leaves your device, and nothing is stored.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in the browser, with nothing to install. Each attempt redraws the pages, so a big PDF can take a few extra seconds on a phone. The bar shows the progress, and Cancel stops everything.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No. A protected PDF won’t open here, and we don’t try to break the password. See PDF won’t open or is password protected.
